RETAIL MEAT PRICES

CASE FOR INCREASE NOW UNDER CONSIDERATION (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 4. “ The position in regard to retail meat prices generally is that the master butchers throughout the Dominion have agreed to present their case for higher margins covering increased costs to the Price Tribunal through the New Zealand Master Butchers’ Association,” said the Minister of Supply, Mr D. G. Sullivan, replying to an urgent question asked by Mr A. J. Murdoch (Oppn., Marsden) in the House of Representatives to-day. The Minister said that the association had submitted its case to the tribunal in writing on August 7, and by oral evidence on August 28. The tribunal was at present examining the case which had been presented, but further trading accounts had yet to be submitted to the tribunal, after which final consideration would be given to the matter. Meanwhile, the high prices being paid by the butchers at the auction sales were due to the competitive auction system, which the butchers were not willing to abandon, the Minister added. tiniitixittxmitmiztiiittitititiiiiurjiv.it::
