FIRST INNINGS TOTAL 472 BADCOCK TAKES SIX WICKETS LONDON. Sept. 3. Hutton and Washbrook, continuing their opening stand for LevesonGower’s side against New Zealand at Scarborough, with the score at 121, faced Pritchard, who showed pace from the hard turf, and Badcock, who kept a good length. The batsmen drove and pulled nicely. The spectators, who were numerous, applauded smart fielding by Donnelly and Badcock. Three consecutive maidens emphasised the keenness of the struggle. Hutton, with a 4 off Gallaugher completed his century. With the score at 175, Roberts, the medium-paced bowler, beat Washbrook, the latter playing forward after a stand which lasted two hours and a-half. Washbrook was particularly strong on the leg side and hit nine 4’s. Wyatt, hitting Morgan twice to the ropes in one over, put the home .side ahead with nine wickets in hand. Hutton, when ■ Pritchard came on with a new ball, took 15 from one over. The second wicket added 86 in 55 minutes. Hutton batted for, three hours 44 minutes, and hit 24 4’s before being bowled by Badcock with 188 to his credit. . , Washbrook. during two hours and a-half of well-controlled defence and clean stroke play, hit nine 4’s.
