NOTES FROM RICCARTON

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, June 26. The weather was fine this morning, but the tracks at Riccarton were soft. Main interest in the work was provided by two jumpers, Test Pilot and Full Pitch, who gave an attractive display over four hurdles. They wrat at a sound pace, and though Test Pilot had his head in front at the last obstacle, Full Pitch showed improved form. C. T. Wilson arrived home to-day, after riding at the Hawke's Bay meeting last Saturday. C. H. Mackie will remain in the North Island till after the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting next month. A. B. Stove has a new horse in his fleam. This is Kernel, a six-year-old

Spear Dance gelding who has been off the scene for some time. He was formerly trained at Oamaru, without showing much form. Gulf Stream looks none the worse for his trip to Auckland, and though he failed to show the form that was hoped, he is in good order for engagements at Trent’ham next month. He is well up in the weights, but he is at his best in winter conditions. Roman Son shows signs of soreness yet, but he is improving. His trainer, is hopeful that he will be able to start in a steeplechase on the second day at Trentham, as a preliminary to the Grand National meeting. Whackie has resumed work at the tracks, after a few weeks of road exercise, and he should be ready to show some more good form in August. Kilcato is making good progress in his work with W. Barr’s team. The hunters’ flat race at Washdyke next month may be his next start.
