POULTRY FEED

EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION

STATEMENT BY CONTROLLER (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 24. When asked to comment on the report from Auckland that a drastic cut in the t supply of bran and pollard would operate » as from June 1, and the allegation that un- ; fair discrimination was being exercised against, the small man,, the Wheat and ' Flour Controller (Mr. R. McPherson) said to-day that neither he nor the Wheat * Committee .had given authority for any t such change in the distribution of bran and pollard. He said there was a shortage 1 of these offals caused by the export embargo placed on bran and pollard by the Australian Government in 1940 .and ac- j. centuated his year by the absence of other mashes which in the past had " bridged the gap. > Nevertheless, said Mr McPherson, it was the intention of the Wheat Commit- 1 tee to share the available bran and pollard as equitably as possible, and no discrimination would be made between the large and small producer. He said that by arrangement with the New Zealand Poultry Board 20,000 tons of pollard and 10,000 tons of bran would be distributed during the year amongst registered poultrykeepers, while a further 20,000 tons of bran and pollard would be distributed amongst the “ backyarders ” through the usual channels.

"Although there is a shortage of bran and pollard sufficient wheat is available for poultry, which means that the shortage of mash can be made up by the use of a slightly increased grain ration,” Mr McPherson added.
