GENEROUS DONATIONS

McLAY CHILDREN FUND

More than £4OO has so far been subscribed to the McLay Children Fund, several handsome donations received by the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron) during the past few days having considerably augmented the amount in hand. A cheque for £SB 2s was forwarded as a gift from the residents qf Clyde, a letter accompanying the cheque stating that Mrs McLay had been born in Clyde, where she was held in high regard by the residents. When the fund in aid of the motherless children was opened, the letter added, a community sing, which had been organised by Mrs J. L. Davidson, had been generously supported by local residents, the proceeds reaching the amount of the cheque. The Mayor yesterday received from an anonymous donor a banknote for £SO. It was enclosed in an envelope with a slip of paper bearing the name “Chester.” A sum of £lB 9s has also been received from the staff of the Mosgiel Woollen Factory Co., Ltd., The Mayor of Waikouaiti (Mr Andrew Fell), in a letter to Mr Cameron, expresses keen appreciation of the appeal. He describes it as a very worthy one which should receive generous support from all who know the circumstances. Mr Fell states that the case should have an added interest to Waikouaiti residents, as the McLay family resided there and were very old identities. He added that he had received several donations and would be pleased to receive further contribu. tions to the fund established to assist the children. f ■■ =====
