TOMAHAWK CHILDREN
ENJOYABLE VICTORY PARTY In celebration of the victory in Europe, a party for the children of the Tomahawk district was given by the Tomahawk Women’s Institute on Monday afternoon. The function was opened with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem, followed by the institute song. The president, Mrs Mathieson, extended a welcome to all. To impress upon the children that, although the occasion of victory in Europe was a time of rejoicing, it was also a time for thanksgiving, the Rev. Mr Newlands and Mr McLean, of the Presbyterian Church, conducted a short service. A programme of entertainment, arranged by Mrs M. King, was presented, the children taking part being Ron and Frances Lysaght, Lorraine Callaghan (vocal solos), John Mathieson (piano solo), Leslie Taylor (instrumental solo), Fergus Mathieson (bagpipe selections), June Bennie and lan Robertson (recitations), Valerie and Beverly Trainer (Highland dances). The remainder of the programme comprised games and competitions, and afternoon tea was served.
