TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel

It is reported that Parshall has been doing well since joining H. J. Smith’s stable at Addington. Parshall won at Auckland in October in 3min 21sec on a slow track, but failed to gain a place in five subsequent starts. Last season he won three times and also finished second twice and third four times in 14 starts. In his last win the Ringtrue gelding won the Great Northern Free-for-AU in 2min 43sec. The Yaldhurst trainer A. Holmes has three horses engaged in the All-Aged Stakes at Ashburton, and they have all shown form in their recent starts. It is unusual to find a sire competing against his progeny as in the case of Gold Bar and Worthy Gold, and the inclusion of Imperial Lady, a daughter of Imperial Gold, the dam of Gold Bar, completes a unique bracket. At his last start Gold Bar showed a return to his best form to run Double Peter to a head in the Champion Pacing Free-for-all at Addington at Easter, and at the same meeting Imperial Lady finished in fourth place,to Dundee Sandy, Gallant Maid, and Navigate in the Canterbury Handicap. Worthy Gold was successful in the Waikaura Handicap at Oamaru at his last start, and this three-year-old colt is capable of setting a strong pace in the All-aged Stakes. With nine chances of securing a place dividend, the bracket should be popular wi h investors. Statistics for the 1944-45 trotting season reveal that 45 owners won over £IOOO in stakes. Of this number, 26 exceed=d £2OOO. Auckland and Waikato owners (says "Abavdos ’’) secured a good share, eight being included in the list over £2OOO and four others above £IOOO. Two northern horses, Double Peter and Volo Senwod, were stcond and third respectively in the list of winning horses. By annexing £4250, Double Peter placed his owners, Messrs F. Smith and H. C. Douglas, second on the list of winning own'.rs. Double Peter’s total was not far below that of Bronze Eagle, who secured £4715 for his owner, Mr W. J. Suttie. Bren *', Eagle won two races —the National Handicap and the New Zealand Trotting Cup, which was worth £3350 to the winner. Third on the list of winning owners is Mr J, R. Henderson, of Hamilton, with £3939 10s. Five horses contributed to this total. They were Characteristic. Black Label, Ann Scott, Syncopate, and Kewpie’s Jewel. Characteristic, who wno four rac:s, including the Hawera Trotting Handicap, earned £1474 10s. Josie Dell, £1337, Forewarned, £1460, and Aranui Jack, credited Mr F. A. Bridgens with £3227 10s. Volo Senwod secured £2950 for Mr A. G. Downes. Mr P. Reid collected £2945 through the efforts of Betty Boop, who won the Auckland Trotting Cup, Gallant Maid and Reidwin. Betty Boop acounted for £1585 and Gallant Maid £IO7O. Dr M. G. P zaro and the estate of the late E. G. Bridgens, mainly through the excellent form of Hilda Potts, who won four races and £2280, annexed £2935 Mr H. Bull’s total of £2390 was secured principally by War Guard, winner of the Adams Memorial Handicap, whose earnings were £1660. Stuart Lee and Crossroads also won for Mr Bull. It is probable that if he had not gone amiss Stuart Lee would have further increased the total. Mr V. A. Barker annexed £2170, his chief winner being the consistent Medical Student, £1720. Bill Scott gave Mr Darrah £1530. Ngaire's Pal, with five wins and several placings, earned £1290 for Mr G. A. Baker. Mr A. T. Kemble received £1230 as the result of two successes and a second by the two-year-old Highland Fling and five placings by Hillcrest. Jack High scored three -wins, worth £IOSO to Mr E. Montgomery. Characteristic, Josie Dell, and Ngaire’s Pal are deserving of special mention, as they commenced the season in the novice class. As a result of improved and consistent form thev won their way to the higher company. Ngaire’s Pal reached the tightest marks, and will commence the new season on 2min 48sec, 3min 24sec, and 4mln 35sec. Characteristic will be on 2min 49sec. 3min 25sec, and 4min 37sec, and Josie Dell on 2min 50sec, 3min 26sec, and 4min 38sec.
