WOMEN’S HOCKEY

OTAGO ASSOCIATION Mrs Sonntag presided a meeting of the Otago Women’s Hockey Association on Monday. Owing to the delays caused by the wet weather it was decided to play a round of competition matches on Monday, June 4. An application from the Fern Club for permission to travel to Christchurch on the King’s Birthday week-end was refused. It was stated that it was the club’s duty to meet its local obligations first, and going out of town on this date would mean defaulting two matches. The following transfers were approved: Misses V. Stevens, L. Lepine, M. Hollis and J. Burton, from Bounty to Dunedin; Miss J. Tait, from Bounty to Glenross. It was decided that the nominations of Messrs J. Leith and T. H. Mulholland by the Otago Hockey Umpires’ Association for the position of practical examiner for the Otago district for 1945 should be sent forward to the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association in Wellington. Advice was received from the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association that the theory examination would be held on Monday, July 2, entries to close on Monday, June 18. The Otago Hockey Umpires’ Association advised that the services of qualified umpires would be available to give talks on hockey rules. Any clubs wishing to take advantage of this offer were advised to get in touch with the secretary. For failing to field a team against Glenross on May 12, and for defaulting a match without a reasonable excuse, a fine of 5s was imposed on the King’s A2 team.
