ARTIFICIALLY PRODUCED
CALVES BORN IN AUSTRALIA (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 22. The first calves artificially produced in Australia by a sire in another country were born on Camden Park Estate, near Sydney, a few days ago. The fluid was imported by plane from New Zealand bv Mr A. H. Geddes, Department of Agriculture veterinary research officer, nine months ago. Six cows were artificially inseminated in the same experiment. The two calves born last week are both healthy, normal stock. Two cows have yet to calve, and two are barren. The fluid was brought from New Zealand in thermos containers packed in ice. To conserve the fluid, the temperature must be kept down to 4.5 degrees centigrade. Before insemination. the temperature is raised to normal sir temperature.
