EDUCATIONAL AND LABOUR PROBLEMS
VISIT BY DOMINION OFFICIALS (PA.) WELLINGTON. May 20. It was announced to-night by the Acting Minister of Island Territories, Mr W. Nash, that Mr H. E. Moston, secretary of the Labour Department, and Mr G. M. F. Jackson, chief clerk of the Labour Department, will pay a Visit to Western Samoa very shortly for the purpose of examining labour conditions there and the desirability of making any special provision, legislative or otherwise, with respect to the conditions of employment and welfare in the territory. The Minister stated that Dr C. E. Beeby Director of Education, accompanied by Mr F. C. Reynard, supervisor of technical education, and Mr T. Fletcher, senior inspector of Native schools,'had recently left the Dominion en route to the Cook Islands and Western Samoa with a view to inspecting and reporting on'the education facilities in New Zealand’s island territories. During the course of their visit they hope to have discussions with educational officers in Fiji and Tonga.
