RECOGNITION OF SILVER

AMERICAN SENATE GROUP (Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, Apl. 6. The Senate silver group, which probably holds the balance in the Senate on the Bretton Woods Bill, made clear to the Administration its terms for supporting this legislation, said the Washington correspondent of the New York Times. The silver senators desire the world recognition of silver as a monetary metal. Senator P. McCarran, of Nevada, as spokesman for the silver senators, said they want provision in the international monetary agreement that silver would be recognised as a means of settlement of international balances. Mexico and other silver-producing countries are like-minded, as demonstrated at the Bretton Woods conference in July. Treasury officials are apparently unfavourable. They point out that a silver amendment would necessitate reconvening the Bretton Woods conference.
