THE EMPLOYMENT OF SCHOOLBOYS

Sir,—ln reply to your correspondent, "Ex-Farmhand,” I would like to make one or two suggestions. He complains about schoolboys being sent into the wool stores to learn the art of “ dagging.” Since when has ” dagging ” been elevated to an art? Also, how many stores spend the time and labour on “ dagging ” clips sent' in to them? Maybe he thinks the woolbrokers are running charitable institutions, and that " dagging ” comes under the heading of reclassing. As for his concern about the boys’ agricultural course. I think the rector of the school in question has adequately replied to that. The latter part of "Ex-Farm-hand’s ” letter, which is a jumble of irrelevant humbug about the Department of Labour and schoolboys workin in woolsheds, is a trifle harder to understand. It is not clear whether he is annoyed about a firm getting some cheap labour or whether he has the welfare of the schoolboy at heart. However, I have no doubt if your correspondent would care to come forward and be more explicit a little verbal work-out would tend to clear the atmosphere surrounding his confused brain.—l am, etc., April 8.
