CONTROL BY AMERICA

JAPANESE MANDATED ISLANDS

WASHINGTON, Mar. 25.

The Army and Navy Journal says: “No one doubts that the United States will retain unilateral control of mandated islands captured from Japan, despite any proposals for international trusteeship. Most of our army and navy air force strategists feel that the Pacific islands we have captured shall be acknowledged as American by the Allies, and. therefore, transformed as we wish into bases for our protection. Britain, Australia, New Zealand, France, and the Netherlands would never accept a trusteeship for the islands we have helped them to regain.”

According to the United Press Honolulu correspondent, the House Naval Affairs Sub-committee, which has just concluded its first investigation into conditions in Hawaii since before Pearl Harbour, announced that a Congressional Inquiry into the disposal ot Japanese islands seized by the United States will be held within a month.
