TAIERI FOUR’S SUCCESS

The Leads and Seconds’ tournament was concluded on the Caledonian green on Saturday and was won by Taleri (W. Cousinsi, which defeated Mornington (P, Jack) in the final by 22 points to 18. Nineteen rinks qualified for Saturday’s post-section play, the result being that the tournament could not be completed until nearly 7 p.m. The final proved an interesting game, although the players were handicapped by the cold wind. The Taleri rink was the youngest In the tournament, two of the players having commenced the game only this season. In the morning play on the Anderson's Bay green they defeated Newman (St. Kilda) and Brass (Balmacewen). On the Caledonian green In the afternoon their victims were Pearce (Balmacewen), Turnbull (Tainul). and finally Jack (Mornington). The Mornington four commenced the second round with a narrow win over Starkey (North-East Valley), and then secured fairly easy victories against McKerrow (Taleri), and Murray (Caversham) before meeting Cousins. In the final Cousins established a lead of 13—4 by the ninth head. Jack, with a 5, a 2, and two singles, equalled the score, but was unable to score another point until Cousins had taken his total to 20. The Mornington players struggled for the remaining points, but could not match the consistency of Cousins’s team. Results:— Anderson’s Bay Green First Round.—Cousins (Taleri) 12, Newman (St. Kilda) 10; Brass (Balmacewen) 17, Morgan (Opoho) 6; Pearce (Balmacewen) 16, Lees (Kaikorai) 12. Second Round.—Cousins 11, Brass 6; Pearce 16, Leslie (Opoho) 13; Turnbull (Tainul) 21, Andrews (Mornington) 2; Leigh (Caledonian) 13. Ross (Balmacewen) 12. Caledonian Green Second Round.—Lyall (Fairfield) 16, Highet (Tainul) 9; Murray (Caversham) 16, Pearson (Caledonian) 5; Jack (Mornington) 15, Starkey (North-East Valley) 13; McKerrow (Taleri) 11, Morris (St. Clair) 9. Third Round.—Cousins 13, Pearce 9; Turnbull 14, Leigh 6; Murray 14, Lyall 8; Jack 16, McKerrow 9. Ssmi-final.—Jack 15, Murray 8; Cousins 16, Turnbull 11. Final. —C. W. Bryce, G. D. King, J.
