A complaint was discussed concerning the alleged unsatisfactory marking of goods shipped coastwise from the North Island to Dunedin. In some cases, it was reported, the marks on goods received were practically obliterated. Members also mentioned that many of the cartons how used by North Island shippers were too flimsy to stand the wear and tear of both stowage and handling, thus unduly increasing the risk of damage and pillage The secretary reported that he had' taken the matter up with the shippers’ representatives. A letter was received from the Otago Harbour Board expressing appreciation of the friendly relations existing between the board and the association in matters of common interest. Correspondence with the Bureau of Importers, Auckland, was then read. Included in it were circulars from the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association dealing with policy regarding developments in trade with the United Kingdom. It was stated that unless the present policy were modified there would be 'serious repercussions on reciprocal trade relations.
