THE “BLACK MARKET” RICH

AMERICAN INVESTIGATION WASHINGTON, (Rec. 10 p.m.) Mar. 22. A drive is under way throughout the nation against “ black market ” rich free spenders living in luxury and cheating the Treasury of income taxes. Mr Elmer Irey, a Treasuryagent, whose efforts imprisoned A 1 Capone for taxation evasion, heads the investigation, which at present is concentrating on Florida, where the names of several hundred free spenders have been compiled and sent to their home districts, says the United Press correspondent there. The income tax of each is at present being checked, and several indictments are expected. A Treasury spokesman said: ‘‘There is so much "free spending and luxury living in Miami that you would never know there was a war on. Much of the money is from the “ black markct' The Treasury saw one man lose 40,000 dollars in one night’s gambling. He also saw 10.000 dollars change hands on a single roll of the dice.
