Acceptances for the Beaumont meeting are due to-day. Kohara was schooled over hurdles yesterday morning. Acceptances for the Riverton Racing Club's meting are due to-morrow. W. J. Broughton is top of the list of winning riders with 33 wins to his credit. Chellow Dene's five wins on the West Coast circuit put him out of the hack class.
Although there was a good market at the Wellington bloodstock sales, 24 lots went out of the ring unsold. At one time the Waimate Cup was the only race in New Zealand that had a tropjiy attached to the stakes. Cinderella and Sumra became ineligible for the Trial Stakes at Waimate as a result of their wins at Oamaru. Typhoon belongs to the same family as Revenue (Melbourne CupLCarlita (won £17,830 in stakes), and Gold Medallist, one of the best two-year-olds ever raced in New Zealand. Mr B. S. Irwin will be returned unopposed as president of the Otago Hunt Club, but an election will be held for the vice-presidency and for seats on the committee. Mr J. S. McKay has accepted a contract to hunt the Otago Hunt Club’s pack during the coming season, and he wih not now be eligible for a seat on the committee. A northern writer states that R. J. Mackie was unlucky In that a horse challenging usually goes to one side, whereas Tara King was following the same course as First In until just short of the post, where he ranged up on the outside. Mackie obviously being oblivious to the danger. Acceptances for the minor events to be run at Riccarton are due on Monday. A final payment of £l4 also falls due for the Great Easter Handicap. A final payment for the Great Autumn Handicap falls due on April 3. Ncko carried 12.0 when he won the Gre3t Western Steeplechase last year, and he has been given 12.8 in this year’s race. In 57 contests for the Great Western (says "Hampton”) only five winners have carried more than 12.0, these being Waiau (12.10), Derby (12.10), Plpi (12.7), Manazona (12.2), and Slayer (12.1). Noko and Slayer have been the only two to win the race with 12.0 and above m the last. 40 years. Noko is certainly set the task of a great horse in this years J ac ®: , The difference between a non-totalisatoi point-to-point meeting and a totalisatoi meeting is shown by the balance sheet of the Otago Hunt Club. The point-to-point cost the club £25 19s 2d, and the race meeting showed a profit of £347 4s Id. compared with a profit of Z Id last year.
