HOSPITAL LEVIES
STABILISED LIMIT PROPOSED (P A.) GISBORNE, Mar. 21. A reduction of the hospital contributions by any local body to not more than Id in the £ on the unimproved values was advocated by the Gisborne Borough Council in evidence before the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government to-day. rhe effect of this, it was stated, would be that all local bodies now paying more than the suggested amount would nave their contributions reduced by a payment from the Consolidated Fund. Total abolition of hospital levies on local bodies was strongly supported, but it was felt that such a demand would be asking too much at present. Local authorities now paying less than Id in the £ on the unimproved value would not be affected by the change.
