OTUREHUA STOCK SALE

An entry of approximately 13,000 sheep was yarded for the stock sale at Oturehua yesterday. There was a large attendance of farmers, and outside buyers were also present. Breeding ewes and lambs constituted the bulk of the entry, the balance being made up of a percentage of hill wethers. In the ewe section strongwoolled types were preferred, and anything suitable for running on low country met with solid competition. On the other hand, fine halfbreds in backward condition were not wanted to any extent and were difficult to quit. Some extra good late lambs were forward, but the majority ranged from average to medium size, with a tail-end of culls. Lambs suitable for early fattening sold well, but other classes met with a slower inquiry. Taking the sale throughout, prices compared favourably with recent auctions Quotations: —Best annual draft ewes, fine crossbreds, to 27s 6d; halfbreds, 19s to 22s 9d; ordinary, 14s 6d to 17s; lowconditioned fine halfbreds, 7s 6d to 14s; good crossbred two-tooth ewes, 39s 7d to 40s 6d; fine crossbred two-tooth ewes. 35s to 365; average halfbred two-tooth ewes, 31s 6d to 345; two-tooth hill wethers, 20s 2d to 235; old wethers, from 10s; extra good late lambs, to 23s 4d; good late lambs. 19s 8d to 21s 3d; medium wether lambs, 14s to 17s 6d; small, from 10s; average to good crossbred ewe lambs, 25s to 27s 2d; iine-woolled ewe lambs, 21s to 23s 6d; small, from 14s 6d.
