ADDINGTON MARKET

SLIGHT DROP IN BEEF VALUES (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Mar. 21. There were again large yardings at Ad* dington to-day. Prices for fat cattle showed a slight drop, but there was no change in tire values of fat sheep. The store sheep section had the largest yarding of the season, and with an all-round demand the sale was well up to the standard set at recent ewe fairs.

Store Sheep.—The entry totalled about 35,000, including 8000 iambs and about the same number of two-tocths. Most of the lambs were end-of-season lots and all sold at recent rates. The highest price for wether lambs was 23s 4d, and for ewes 24s Bd. A draft of Romney sheep from Southland made from 42s to 465, and the highest price for halfbreds was 375, prices generally ranging from 31s 6d to that figure. Adult sheep sold very well, and in spite of the large yarding there were very few passings. Four-year-old ewes made up to 27s 6d, and five-year-olds to 25s 6d, several sales being made on this basis.

Fat Sheep.—The entry totalled 4250, being mostly composed of ewes of varying quality. The highest price for wethers was 47s Id, and for ycung ewes 34s 7d. Aged ewes made to 25s 6d. Prices generally were well up to'schedule and showed no change on recent values. Fat Cattle. —The entry was 575, against 590 last week. Tire market opened with little change in values, but because of the big yarding there was a drop of 15s to 20s a head over the concluding stages of the sale. Fat Pigs.—There was a small entry in the porker section, but competition was not as keen as last week, mainly due to the uncertainty of- the position at the local freezing works. Values were easier by 2s to 3s a head. Choppers showed a drop of from 20s to 30s a head, and values for baconers were down by 2s to 4s a head. The average price per lb for baconers was BJd to 9d. The best is cheapest in the tone runorder Kaitangata coal.—Advt.
