ANIMAL CLINIC

ESTABLISHMENT URGED INVESTIGATION OF PROPOSAL “Do you not think we arc inclined to be a little too conservative with our funds? ” asked Mr L. M. Wright at a meeting yesterday of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, when submitting a suggestion that the society should investigate the possibility of establishing an animal clinic similar to the one in Christchurch. Mr Wright said that if the society took a long view and endeavoured to establish a clinic it would be doing something to justify its existence. If it spent £IOOO of its capital he added, it would be well worth while. The chairman (Mr R. Fountain): Who is going to look after the clinic? Mr Wright: A clinic would arouse more interest in the society’s affairs, and we would get more subscriptions from the public. The chairman said that the society had had in mind the establishment of a clinic when its finances permitted it to do so. “When will that be?” asked Mr Wright. “ We did look at a property, but it was not suitable,” said Mr Fountain.

Mr Wright contended that the society would get more support in its work if a clinic were established, and he suggested that the matter should be investigated. Members agreed that the proposal was worthy of investigation, and it was decided to discuss it at 'the next meeting the secretary (Mr E. S. Wilson) meanwhile to obtain particulars of the clinic which is in operation in Christchurch.
