ANGLING
A successful combined working bcc and fishing competition was held at fne Kakanui River on Saturday. Members assembled in the vicinity of Teschemakers aud busied themselves with cutmg gorse and tracks in the gorse to the banks of the river. After tea a competition was held, and Mr J. Wray secured the trophv bv landing thiee fish, with a total wei°ht of sJlb, the largest being 2Jlb. Mr W Thomas was second, catching lour fish totalling 4jib. About 1G fish were weigheci-in altogether. . Reports coming to hand state that three salmon were landed at the Waitaki River. Indications are that this river is gradually clearing, and if the weather remains line it may be in good condition for the Easter holiday. One of the salmon secured weighed 141 b, and was in good condition. For some time past many salmon have been seen in the surf at the mouth, and many more have been running.
