BOWLING RULES
Following on a discussion at the meeting of the North Otago Bowling Centre on Friday night on the enforcement-of bowling rules, and the appointment of umpires for the Easter tournament, it was pointed out that; the rules were not enforced at tournaments, and Mr H. C. Jeffery said the centie should consider the appointment of a member of a neutral club as umpire for centre matches, for the purpose of correcting faults and enforcing the rules, especially the mat rule.
Mr W. Denholm stated that ,the Meadowbank Club appointed two umpires for the season, and Mr D. H. Thomson commented that the first step was for the clubs to mark the mats with white lines three inches from the front of the .mat, Mr N. 11. Colquhoun said Mr Thomson had done his best to interest players in the rules, but had not received the support he deserved. The trouble, was that players did net know the rules, and they were offered the benefit of Mr Thomson’s long experience and knowledge, but did not avail themselves of the opportunity presented. Mr Thomson should be encouraged to continue his talks on the rules.
