FUTURE OF ITALY
JOINT STATEMENT SHORTLY LONDON, Jan. 4.
Mr Churchill and President Roosevelt will shortly be making a joint declaration on the future of Italy, said Mr Harold Macmillan at a press conference at Rome to-day, reoorts the Exchange Telegraph correspondent. Mr Macmillan said: “ I look forward confidently to a complete agreement.” He added that few appreciated the difficulties in Italy. Many critics who had not seen or had only briefly visited the liberated territories did not realise the position. “We need patience and perseverance in dealing with Italy, but, whatever we do for Italy, it is nothing to what the Italians can and must do for themselves,” said Mr Macmillan.
