BOROVANSKY BALLET

Although there has been a good demand for seats for the J. C. Williamson Borovansky Ballet season, which will begin at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday night next, the booking is evenly distributed over the whole of the 10 nights, and seats in central positions for the opening performance and for subsequent ones are available at the D.I.C. “No praise is too high,” wrote an Australian critic, “ for the well-knit corps de ballet. Last night the sureness and precision of these talented girls made ‘ Les Sylphides,’ that classic test piece, a pleasure to watch.” The initial programme of ballets will include the first performance here of Ashton’s “Facade,” a glorious satire on old music hall songs and dances. Borovansky’s own symphonic ballet for Grieg’s Concerto in A minor is a brilliant achievement. This ballet is notable for the brilliant dancing of Borovansky and Misses Stevenson. Busse. Wilkie, and Martin. “ Sigrid,” which is also included in the first programme, is a shorter and brilliant work by Edna Busse, one of the principal ballerinas. It is noteworthy for the opportunities it gives Martin Rubenslein to demonstrate a high technical competency and an emotional warmth much above the average. Other ballets to be presented during the season are “ Giselle,” “ Spectre de la Rose,” “ Divertissements,” “ Swan Lake,” “En Saga,” “Sea Legend,” “L’Amour Ridicule.” “Autumn Leaves.” “ Vltava,” “En Saga.” and “Capriccio Italien.”
