GRAND THEATRE "Louisiana Hayride,” a Columbia musical comedy, with Judy Canova in the title role, and Hose Hunter and Richard Lane at the head of a talented cast, has pride of place in the new programme screened at the Grand Theatre yesterday Judy Crocker (Judy Canova), a hill-billy, girl, strikes it rich when an oil company takes an option on her farm. She became associated with two confidence men, McMasters (Richard Lane) and Canada Brown (George McKay). Discovering that Judy can sing, they sell her 3000 dollars worth of stock in a picture called "Louisiana Hayride,” which will star her. The whole project seems doomed to failure but the owner of the motion picture rights to the plagiarised story turns out to be a friend of the family and presents the rights to Judy. A highly diverting comedy-drama. “She’s a Soldier Too,” starring Beulah Bondi, -Jess Barker, Nina Foch, and Lloyd Bridges, is the supporting feature.
MAYFAIR THEATRE A stirring story of America’s youth in uniform is told in “Texas to Tokio," which heads the new programme released at the Mayfair Theatre yesterday, with Martha O'Driscoll, Richard Quine, and Ann Gwynne in the principal roles. The supporting picture* is the latest of the Aldrich series, “Henry Aldrich Plays Cupid.” OTHER THEATRES Strand Theatre.—Anne Gwynne and David Bruce appear in a sparkling musical, “South of Dixie.” and George Tobias, Lucille Fairbanks, and Ernest Truex in the comedy. “ Calling All Husbands.” St. Janies Theatre.—“ Rage in Heaven,” a thrilling story by the author of “ Good-bye, Mr Chips,” features Robert Montgomery, Ingrid Bergman, and .George Sanders. Octagon Theatre.—The amazing story of jbresent-day Russia, “The North Star,” stars Ann Baxter, Walter Brennan, Dana Andrews, and Walter Huston. Regent Theatre.—"Mission to Moscow,” the thrilling story of Joseph E. Davies, former United States Ambassador to Russia, has Walter Huston and Ann Harding in the leading roles. State Theatre.—“ They Came to Blow Up America,” a thrilling story of Nazi saboteurs inside America, stars George Sanders and Anna Stem
Empire Theatre.—John Wayne, Binnie Barnes, and Albert Dekker take the leading roles in the film, “ In Old California,” a dramatic romance of the Californian gold rush.
