SHAKESPEARE SEASON

OPENING ON SATURDAY It is so many years since a Shakespeare play has been staged in Dunedin by a visiting company that Miss Ngalo Marsh's production of " Hamlet,” which is to occupy the boards of His Majesty’s Theatre for four nights, commencing next Saturday, will provide many of the younger generation with their first opportunity of seeing and hearing a living presentation of the work of tire greatest of all dramatists. It is fitting, too, that the play to be given should be Shakespeare’s masterpiece, “ Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.” Miss Marsh's company is drawn from the ranks of the Canterbury College Drama Society, and has already achieved a notable success in' Christchurch in both “ Hamlet and “ Othello,” Playing "Hamlet" in modern dress is no longer considered experimental, but Is gradually becoming the recognised method of presentation in most countries. The Dunedin season will be- restricted to seven nights—four of "Hamlet" and three of "-Othello," with a Saturday matlness of each play. Plans are now open at the D.I.C. The management announces special reductions for school children at all performances.
