THE RATIONING OF BUTTER
Sir, —The Government has decided that expectant* mothers, on whom the vitality of new lives depends, do not require extra butter, while sawmill workers and coal miners must have their health and strength maintained at all costs—or is it their morale? The leaders of our Government have gone to great pains in their e(tort to convince the people that butter is being rationed in New Zealand so that the brave people of Great Britain may still receive their meagre 2oz. Why do they not tell the real truth about the matter? Everybody knows that in this fair land, which once literally flowed with milk and honey, there is such a serious shortage of dairy produce—a condition brought about entirely by the policy of the present Government—that rationing has become a necessity and will continue to be so until primary production. on which the prosperity of our country depends, is classed among the essential industries and treated accordingly.—l am. etc.. New Zealander. Invercargill. Dec. 11.
