ST. KILDA BOROUGH

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING OF COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was hel<J last night, there being present the Mayor (Mr N. D. Anderson) and Crs R. S. Brent, E. Longworth, P. J. B. Rendel, D. A. Telfer, D. J. Simpson, and J. H. Hinton Accounts amounting to £1660 Os 9d were passed for payment. It was reported that receipts since the last meeting totalled £487 19s 7d and that the credit balance at the bank was £405 4s 2d. Crs Longworth and Rendel were appointed delegates to the second annual conference of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association, which will be held in Timaru on November 15. A letter was received from the association advising that it had been found desirable to hold the conference this year in Timaru rather than in Christchurch, a? originally planned. The Mayor and Crs Longworth and Simpson were appointed to represent the council at the conference of local bodies which has been convened by the Dunedin City Council for the purpose of discussing suitable development works in the city and province. The conference will be held in the City Council chambers on November 7. A letter was received from the town clerk of Dunedin (Mr R. A. Johnston) advising that, as the result of discussions between the Minister of Works (Mr R. Semple) and representatives of local bodies, it had been decided to prepare a list of suggested development schemes for submission to the National Development Council which had been set up by the Government for the purpose, inter alia, of collating -the proposals from district areas and advising the Government.

The borough traffic inspector (Mr G. W. ' Bowler) reported that 17 motor drivers’ licences had been issued during the past fortnight. Three building permits had been issued, and 52 notices had been delivered regarding the installation of regulation crossings.
