GERMANY’S HOME GUARD

CALL-UP OF CLERGYMEN (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 23. Germany is calling up Protestant and Catholic clergy for service in the Rome Guard and the army, with the exception of Jesuits, who are considered unfit to bear arms, says the New York Times Stockholm correspondent. The Nazis, it is reported, tear that the Jesuits would spread religious propaganda among the troops. Other clerical organisations requested exemption from duty, but were turned down. All the available priests and clergymen will be sent to training camps as soon as feasible.
