YOUNG WAR CRIMINALS

GERMAN' BOYS WITH RIFLES (Rec. 11.20 p.m.) . LONDON, Oct. 23. The youngest war criminals yet to fall into the hands of the Allies were taken into custody near Aachen, says an Exchange Telegraph correspondent. They were four German boys, two of whom were aged 10 and the others 8 and 14 years, who were discovered with an American rifle and another of Russian make, which they had been firing from tripods made with sticks inside the Aachen battle zone just before the city fell. American artillerymen heard bullets whining overhead and went out and stalked the shooters.

An officer told the correspondent that it had not been proved that the boys were shooting at the advancing Americans. “Nevertheless, the matter is very serious from our print of view. These boys, civilians in civilian clothes, were operating in the combat zone.’’

The boys, the eldest of whom was a member < f the'Hitler Youth, are being kept under lock and until the matter is investigated.
