ACCORDION BAND

VISITORS’ FINAL CONCERT

To conclude its week-end visit to Dunedin the Excelsior Piano-accordion Band, Christchurch, gave another enjoyable concert last night before a large audience in the Concert Chamber. The conductor (Mr H. F. Lamport) expressed thanks on behalf of the band to all who had helped to make its concerts a success. Mr J. F. Himburg, who was in charge of the arrangements in Dunedin, mentioned that the 23 members of the band had paid their own travelling and accommodation expenses and that the proceeds of all the concerts in Dunedin were being given to the Merchant Navy Hospitality and Welfare Fund. In addition to four selections by the band, items by the following were contributed to the programme:—The Harmony Trio, Beryl Windsor and Florence Dalton (sketch), Walter Scott (piano-accordion solo), Norman Havord (banjo solo), Pat Oliver (recitation), the Small Brothers (tap duo). Merle Ayers and Shirley Chapman (vocal duets) and Bill Middlemiss (song). __________
