AMERICAN NAVY GOES TO FRANCE „ . . RUGBY, Oct. 20. The United States navy has begun its exodus from the English Channel ports, moving its bases of operations to France “for the duration,” . states United States naval headquarters. Several coast towns which months before D-Day had been busy with United States naval preparations for the assault on Europe, and which after DDay had been bases of supply and reinforcement, are now entirely empty of United States sailors and shipping. Each week brings the closing of more amphibious and supply bases as naval operations shift more and more to the Continent.
