AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS
ARDUOUS BATTLES AHEAD CANBERRA, Oct. 20. “In the near future Australian soldiers will be engaged in battles as important as, if not more important than, any in which they have taken part,” said the Minister for the Army, Mr F. M. Forde, in a broadcast to-night. “For some time the Australian Army has been resting and reorganising, and before long it will be engaged in arduous battles. A great offensive is being mounted against Japan m the Pacific, and Australia is being used as a springboard. Further substantial forces will arrive in this theatre in the near future, not only from the United States, but also from Britain. The war against Japan will last a long time, and there is every indication that the Japanese will fight doggedly to the end.”
