WOOL SURPLUS
GOVERNMENT’S CONCERN
THIS YEAR’S CLIP TO BE STORED
The Government was definitely worried about the wool position, said the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, speaking at Winton in the Awarua by-election campaign. The Government had to find storage for the whole of this year’s clip and even aerodrdme hangars had been inspected as possible storage places. “This is a matter of definite interest to Southland and to the whole of New Zealand,” said Mr Fraser, a “ Britain cannot take any more wool, and neither can the United States.” The Government would co-operate with the producers, said Mr Fraser, and by working together they would reach a solution of the problem. The country’s economy was balanced by all industries, and if one industry was hard hit, then the whole community would help and the burden would be shared. This would be internal stabilisation in operation.
