CEREALS IN SHORT SUPPLY GOOD DEMAND FOR SMALL SEEDS There is no business to record In wheat owing to a dearth of offerings. Oats Merchants are still finding extreme difficulty in securing sufficient oats for seed requirements, and by the time the demand is over, local stores will be bare of stocks. No oats of any-variety are available for feed or for shipping. Chaff supplies arc fully equal to the demand, which at this time of the year is not large The market remains unchanged at. up to £7 10s per lon, ex truck, Dunedin, sacks extra, for very best quality. There is no outlet for poor quality or discoloured lines. Potatoes When new potatoes make their appearance they will come on to a bare market With heavy shipments overseas for the armed forces, and a strong demand from the North Island, there has been almost a total clearance of stocks throughout Canterbury and Otago. Frosts during the past few weeks have in many cases affected early crops. Growers are busy at the present time in sowing main crop varieties. Seeds The demand for most lines of seeds continues, and the market for white clover Montgomery red clover, cowgrass, cocksfoot, and crested dogs tail remains steady, with good prices ruling for seed of high export quality. There is little inquiry for Chewings fescue and browntop. both of which may be quoted as easier. Various Commodities Wholesale prices are as follows: Chaff, up to £7 10s per ton ex truck. Fowl wheat, up to 6s 6d per bushel, ex store, according to quality and quantity. Butter: Bulk. Is Id per lb. Bacon, Is 3d per lb. Price of Eggs The following is the Government-fixed wholesale price of eggs:—Heavy, Is 81a; standard, Is Gjd; medium, Is 5Jd; pullets, Is 3d; ungraded, Is 4Jd; large duck. Is 5Jd; small duck, Is 4Jd; ungraded, Is 3Jd. The retail prices are: Is lid. Is 9d, Is. 7 a d, Is sd, Is 6Jd, Is 7Jd, Is 6Jd, and Is s}d.
