RURAL HOUSING

ACCOMMODATION FOR FARM WORKERS Mr W. Huse (supervising organiser for New Zealand) placed before the North Otago Primary Production Council yesterday details of the rural housing scheme to provide accommodation for farm workers' The plans and details were fully discussed by the council. ....... Mr A. Congalton contended that the Government should assist in providing houses much cheaper, and the i sales tax should be taken off the materials. There was a long discussion on the plans, and finally the following resolution was carried:—“ That while agreeing that the type of building at £750 will satisfy many farmers it will not suit a large number, who consider that the kitchen and the bedrooms are too narrow, and could be improved by constructing the chimney outside, thus giving more kitchen space, and extending the bedroom walls two feet, thus giving more bedroom space. The council suggests that such a building should be provided in addition to the two types already provided.”
