TECHNICAL COLLEGE CONCERTS

Sir, —I notice in your reply to a correspondent, “ Encourage Local Talent," that' you state that it has been found impossible to'arrange for a broadcast of the Dunedin Technical College concerts next month. I surmise that the reason is that such broadcast will clash with some serial feature running in the interest of " big business." I have no connection in any way with the college or any member of its choir, but, as one who was privileged to listen to a recent performance of this choir, I am astounded to learn that anything would be permitted to interfere with a broadcast of such merit. I have never heard a performance of this nature that could compare in excellence, versatility, and worth with that of the King Edward Technical College. It is surely unique In this hemisphere, and I have reason to believe that my judgment is shared by hundreds at least of our citizens. When I visualise the man-hours that are more or less wasted in listening to trivial broadcasts and compare this fact with the pleasure and the incalculable and lasting asset this unique musical training offers to thousands of our future citizens I am amazed that the courtesy of a broadcast is declined.

I venture to say that little is impossible, least of all this broadcast, and in this instance the wishes of the citizens will prevail if they choose to express their, will. Both the broadcasting service and the choir belong to them. —I am, etc., October 20. D. M. Robertson.
