ATTACKED OFF DUTCH COAST

ENEMY SHIPS DAMAGED RUGBY, Oct. 5.

E and R boats, merchant vessels, and possibly tank landing craft were attacked off the Dutch coast and islands on Wednesday night by R.A.F. Wellingtons and Avengers. Several enemy vessels were damaged. None of 'our aircraft are missing. Twenty 2501 b bombs were dropped yesterday by Polish Spitfires on a concentration of barges on the river Maas, and eight of them found their targets. Rocket Typhoons destroyed strongpoints which had impeded our troops in the advance in the Leopold canal area. Canal shipping, railway bridges, and enemy rail* and road transport were also attacked, both in Holland and along the Western German border.

In one week R.A.F. Tactical Air Force fighters destroyed 120 enemy aircraft and damaged 79.
