GOOD PROGRESS

ADVANCE TOWARDS BOLOGNA AMERICANS TAKE HILL TOWN (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 6. In< spite of strong resistance from the enemy, and heavy rain, American and British troops continue. to make good progress towards Bologna. The Americans have taken a hill town 15 miles from the city. Fifth Army forces are steadily reducing the distance separating them from Bologna, despite resistance in difficult mountain country, says the Exchange Telegraph’s Rome correspondent. Two forces are now less than 14 miles in a direct line from Bologna—one force on the highway less than 1000 yards from Loiana: the other in the mountains, where a threemile advance resulted in the capture of Monte Venere, which is a key feature three miles west of Loiana, dominating the highway to Loiana. Advances have been made towards the Rimini-Bologna highway, and also the secondary road to Cuviola, and the Germans, using massed guns, are trying to halt this drive.

The Indians of the Eighth Army improved their positions across the Fubicon by the capture of San Drnato.
