CHOCOLATE STAIRCASE
JAPANESE POSITIONS TURNED .-V' :-- V! rugby; Oct. 5. Japanese infantry and gun positions at Chocolate Staircase, on the Tiddim road, have • been turned by Indian troops, states the South-east Asia Command. Four miles north of Tiddim the road has been cut in the enemy rear. An attack on. this, block tyas repulsed, and large fires were! seen burning in the Japanese position. Enemy outposts suffered further losses in renewed attacks. Allied aircraft sup- > potted the ground operations and also attacked various targets throughout Burma.
