AID FOR PARIS

PROVISION OF SUPPLIES (Rec 10.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 26. When the roads are repaired Pans will be supplied with food from Normandy and Brittany, but in the meantime plans for supplying emergency food and medical stores to the city have been drawn up by the Allied Army’s Civil Affairs Division, it is announced in London.

The first supplies will be sent into Paris as soon as the military situation permits. Transport is the most difficult problem to be solved, because all available means are being used to supply the troops driving the enemy out of the country. Indispensable foodstuffs and medical supplies will reach the citizens when some of the lorries and trucks can be spared, and some of the captured German vehicles may be used. The distribution of food within Paris will be the responsibility of the French authorities, but they will be assisted by Allied Civil Affairs’ officers on General Eisenhower’s staff. The policy of the Allied leaders is to do everything possible to enable the French to help themselves.
