FORTUNE-TELLING

Sir,—l notice that two women fortunetellers were fined recently in the Auckland Police Court. There is so muen more serious crime going unpunished in this country, ana offences or trespasses against women are regarded with suen nonchalance by the police, that policewomen would be better employed protecting and defending their own sex. But no doubt they are' only carrying out orders. It is strange that men fortune-tellers can carry on undisturbed. Two highly-re-soected women living alone had stones thrown at their windows frequently by boys. " Old maids don’t understand children," said the police. But if the women had broken the constable’s windows he would soon, have had the “ old maids ” in gaol for the offence.—l am, etc.. Law and Order. Dunedin, June 19.
