ATTACKED IN HOME
ELDERLY WOMAN.’S ORDEAL DWELLING RANSACKED (Special) AUCKLAND, June 17. An elderly widow who had been living alone in a house in Williamson avenue, Grey Lynn, was attacked by . a burglar just as she- stepped through the front door of her heme on Thursday night. After a struggle, in which she received injuries to her face, she was left lying in a semi-conscious condition in the hallway. The house had been thoroughly ransacked, but the intruder was able to find only a few shillings. The woman left her home at about 6 o’clock to visit friends in Karangahape road, and she returned home shortly before 10 o’clock. She had just stepped inside the front doorway when a man- seized her by the throat, put his hand over her meuth, and said: “ Don’t make a sound, or I’ll blow your brains out.” , „ , ,
The woman struggled in the. dark hallway, and her assailant kept saying: “ Where is your money? ” She told him there was none in the house and that her brother was expected at any minute. She then slumped to the floor and the burglar made off. After lying on the floor in a semiconscious condition for about half an hour, the woman struggled to her feet and staggered into a neighbour's house. Detectives were called and a doctor later arrived to attend to the victim’s injuries, which comprised severe contusions on the face.
