ADMIRAL HALSEY

DOMINION’S HOSPITALITY LETTER OF APPRECIATION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 17. The Acting Prime Minister, Mr D. G. Sullivan, said to-day that he had received from Admiral W. F. Halsey, former 'commander in the South Pacific, a letter thanking him and the people of New Zealand for the splendid hospitality extended to Admiral Halsey’s party on its recent visit. “The cordiality shown to us and the high honour conferred on me were but an extension of the same magnificent friendliness that New Zealand has always displayed to all American servicemen who have visited you,” he said. “ These open-handed, hearty attributes so universally found in your countrymen were not born of war, I know, but' merely gained impetus from it. I shall look forward to visiting New Zealand again in happier times, and to everlasting friendship between our two nations.”

Mr Sullivan expressed confidence that the people of the Dominion would reciprocate these feelings.
