STATE THEATRE

GEORGE FORMBY FEATURED George Formby, the star who has gained remarkable popularity during the last few years, and now ranks as Britain’s leading comedian, is at his brilliant best in his latest film, “ Get Cracking,” in which he appears as a lance-corporal in the minor Home Guard -» battalion. The things that Formby and his companions do to outsmart their rivals make a very entertaining picture. In “Get Cracking,” which commenced a second week at the State Theatre yesterday, intense rivalry exists between the hamlets of Major Wallop and Minor Wallop, each of which boasts its own Home Guard battalion, but the story works out to a happy ending. Music is well to the fore, and no fewer than three new numbers are featured at appropriate intervals. A strong supporting cast includes Edward Rigby, Frank Pettingell, Ronald Shiner, and Dinah Sheridan. The box plans are at the theatre and at Begg’s.
