Conversion of Bicycle

Jack Davis Saul, a mill hand, pleaded not guilty to a charge of converting a bicycle to his own use on May 28 last.— Evidence was given by Constable H. Plumridge that he saw the defendant remove the bicycle from King Edward street at 3.50. a.m. on May 28. The defendant first gave his name as “ George Stevenson.” The defendant was slightly under the influence of liquor at the time.—The defendant said he intended taking the bicycle to the South Dunedin Police Station.—“l cannot accept your explanation,” tire magistrate commented in inflicting a fine of £2 and costs (10s). He was convicted and ordered to pay costs (12s) on charges of having no indication disc affixed and with having no windscreen wiper.—William Leslie Roberts was fined 10s and costs (10s) on a charge of having no warrant of fitness.
