NOTES FROM RICCARTON
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, June 14. Cataract was schooled this morning over four hurdles. Though he had been educated for some time over the pony obstacles, this was his first trial over the big ones. He gave a very safe display, though he got up in the air, and he should improve with more experience. Arctic Dawn was out this morning, none the worse for his fgU when schooling yesterday over the pony hurdles. When he fell he was ridden by his trainer. G. Rideway, who injured his left knee. It is very much enlarged, and Ridgway will be laid up for a few days. Mr W. Parsons's four-year-old Prince Dorie, by Night Raid, has resumed work, after being off ihe scene for six months. I-Ie has joined W. Barr’s stable, and will be given a trial as a jumper. H. R. Davies has Contemptuous in hand after a few months' spell, and he has also recommissioned Muffler, who lias not done any racing this season. In the meantime they are both being restricted to exercise on the roads, as a preliminary to more serious tasks.
Stand To, who ran a nail into a foot, has made a good ‘recovery, and has resumed work, though with no engagements near at hand his tasks are light. The Banks Peninsula Racing Club, which held one race meeting this season, made a profit of £135 on Ihe year’s operations, after investing £SOO in the Liberty Loan.
