Sir, —The contention of " M ’’ that Europe received its civilisation from Rome is beside the point. As " Civis ’’ has shown. Grecian civilisation is older than Roman, as any schoolboy should know, but what has that to do with eternity? Since matter is indestructible! Rome is no more eternal than any other city,— I am, etc., D.

Dash it all, he is surely not suggesting that we are either civilised or Christian!
