POWER BOARD
MR A. R. TAIT ELECTED CHAIRMAN At a special meeting of the Waitaki Electric Power Board yesterday morning, Mr A. R. Tait, on the motion of Mr A. B Lang, seconded by Mr N. H. Colquhoun. was elected chairman of the board, and on the motion of Mr J. Gerne, seconded by Mr E. S. Brewster, Mr A. B. Lang was elected deputy-chairman. The chairman's honorarium was iixea at £IOO, the same as last year. There were present at the meeting Messrs A. R. Tait (chairman), A. B. Lang, J. Newlands, G. O. Pringle, D. E. Neave, E. S. Brewster, N. H. Colquhoun, J. Gerrie, and H. P. Kent. It was left to the chairman and secretary to frame a minute of appreciation of the valuable services given by the retiring chairman, Mr J. M. Forrester, and by Mr R. B. Meek. Mr Tait reported that a social function would be held in Mr Forrester’s honour on June 26, and that it' would be an evening function, as the outside staff had expressed a desire to be present. Mrs D G. Williams (honorary secretary of the Women’s Patriotic Committee), wrote asking if the board and staff would assist the committee’s quota of patriotic funds by holding a patriotic market.— Mr Tait reported that the staff was willing to conduct a market, and it was agreed to hold it in October. The board’s annual subscription, £4O, to the Power Boards’ Association was passed for payment, as was also the board’s subscription, £3 3s, to the South Island Local Bodies’ Association. In connection with the selection of a power boards’ representative on the executive of the Local Bodies' Association, the secretary reported that two nominations had been received, each being nominated by three boards, and he suggested that the secretaries’ branch should conduct a ballot on the matter. —The board approved of the suggestion. The estimates and annual reports ot the secretary and the engineer, held over from the last meeting, were approved. The board decided to transfer £SOOO to the reserve for maintenance.
